The Impact of International Educators in the U.S.

Addressing the Teacher Shortage and Boosting the Economy through Cultural Diversity and Talent Contributions

As the world's economy becomes increasingly global, so too does the workforce of many U.S. firms. The increased number of high-skilled foreign professionals has been a major factor in the stability of the U.S. economy. It will be the case well into the future, as many of these highly major occupations are projected to be among the fastest-growing in-demand jobs over the next few years.

Dozens of empirical studies have found that immigration benefits American industries. For decades, US industries have been depending on highly skilled industrial workers to fill the many vacancies of high-demand jobs in the various US sectors.

Among the industry that has experienced a shortage of professionals is education. In the past years, there has been a growing shortage of teachers to cater to the increase in student population. And the shortage of teachers has become a major problem in the US because it dramatically affects the quality of education.

International educators can make positive contributions to the U.S. economy in a number of different ways.

Cultural Diversity

Foreign teachers may bring to the United States the language of cultural diversity that promotes various learning experiences in the classroom.

Talent Contribution

They increase the level of talent in the U.S. workforce because foreign teachers coming to the United States possess higher educational levels and experience compared to newly hired US teachers.

Competency

US Schools deserve teachers with formal education and training to handle a class, they may well turn to substitutes that are unqualified or virtual classes that are far less engaging.

Increase in Data

They contribute to the improvement of some states and federal data. As highly skilled, international educators are experts in their field and have extensive experience with data-driven instruction and classroom management.

There are thousands of foreign-born teachers in the U.S., who have been providing quality education to children from different backgrounds and cultures. But despite that, the shortage of teachers in the US has been a critical issue across the country, until the US government figures out a way to resolve this worsening problem, US schools will remain reliant on foreign educators.
